How long does it take to freeze dry food?
A typical run would take 2 hours in the CD8 Freeze Dryer. We have an autodry function that automatically detects your freeze drying progress and takes the guess work out of adding program parameters. If you are freeze drying lollies or candy, you can freeze dry them in typically just under 2 hours.
Can I put frozen food into the CD8 Freeze Dryer?
Yes, you can put frozen foods and liquids into the CD8 Freeze Dryer. On a side note, we would recommend not to put hot liquids or food into the CD8 Freeze Dryer.
Can I overdry food in the CD8 Freeze Dryer?
No, you cannot over dry your food using the CD8 Freeze Dryer. It’s a gentle drying process which automatically detects the drying progress of your run, once your food is freeze dried, the CD8 Freeze Dryer puts it into storage mode. It’s absolutely fine to keep your food in the freeze dryer until you are ready to open the chamber door.
How does Freeze Drying compare to Dehydrating?
There is absolutely no comparison when it comes to dehydrated foods and freeze dried foods. When dehydrating foods, you lose alot of the shape due to shrinkage, and you also lose a lot of the nutritional value and vibrancy within the foods.
What power supply is needed to run the CD8 Freeze Dryer?
Power requirements for the CD8 Freeze Dryer is a standard 240 volt wall socket.
Do I need any gas fittings or extra plumbing to install the CD8 Freeze Dryer?
No, you don’t need to prepare any gas fittings or extra plumbing to install the CD8 Freeze Dryer. The vacuum pump is connected to the freeze dryer and it powers on as needed. Any ice condensation that is built up inside the chamber will be put through a defrost run which will drain through the drain valve.
How do I obtain repairs or maintenance for the CD8 Freeze Dryer?
You can lodge a service request on our website. Maintenance that is required is to keep the chamber, tray stack and trays clean by wiping them clean using hot soapy water. Your vacuum pump will need a tip seal replacement that can be done every 1 to 2 years depending on how frequent you use your CD8 Freeze Dryer.
